Selkirk May Match Day 2
« on: May 13, 2012, 09:58:08 PM »
Well today started out early with the wind most definately stronger than it was yesterday.  I was in the shower by 5:45 AM and at the range by 6:45 and began to think to myself that today is going to be mighty interesting.  It was to a point but even though it was blowing good the conditions were readable and repeatable.  This afternoon there were a few times when it got a bit squirly where it gave some 180 degree reversals.  I think I found a new respect for my wind probe in the wind.  I listened to what it told me.  I do have faith in what it says.

Anyhow to the results.

I hope to have some pictures up in the next little bit.

This is it until the Provincials in August where I hope to see a few more shooters come out and brave the winds of the Prairies.  Gord Wald informed us that if he has his way he will not see us in August.  Gord has been waiting a LONG TIME for total knee replacement and hopes to have it taken care of shortly.  Oh and as a side note he is willing to lend his rifle out to anyone who would like to shoot it at the Nationals..........  Yah right.

Until next time.

As Chris Ross would say "SEE YAH".

Congratulations on the win Calvin.
Looks like some good competition again for this match.

Gord, I wish you a speedy recovery for the knee surgery.

You the man Calvin. Did you do all this fine shooting with the same configuration rifle of a year ago? Reason i am asking is because a couple months ago you were unsure of your selection of build parts.

Thanks Dan, Rick and Gary.

Gary basically yes but I did change 2 things.  Went back to my Protector Single Stitch leather bag with a donut under it and using a used dryer sheet folded in half twice under the rear of the butt.  Also, I changed the front back from a SEB bag to a Protector Cordura.  Something about the springiness of that bag that I thought may be causing issues.

The load was the exact same load as in August.  53 clks of 133, 64.5 Opel seated at the Boyer/Neary meathod of bullet jam.  Bullet seated out to the point the lands pushed it back into the case.  Shot it at that.  I have a new respect and faith in this rifle.

There is a lot more I can say but I will leave it at this.  The lastest bolt mod, leave the firing pin unscrewed from the bolt body but still stuck inside the body.  Open your bolt case, grab it by the handle at pull it out forgetting that the firing pin is loose.  You hear something bounce on the concrete.  There you see laying on the cement is your SHINEY firing pin.  As you drop the F BOMB wondering if you bent it.  Cal's thought on that, I tell everyone I indexed my firing pin to 6 O'Clock.......  You should see some of the looks or comments.

Congratulations Cal   just think how you'll shoot when you get your gun figured out.

A good victory in trying conditions and  tough competition.

My view Saturday afternoon

The littlest BR Shooter I have seen shoot at Selkirk.  I think he can still fit into a medium tee shirt.

Congratulations Calvin, as they say, at 100 yards you just have to be close to the leaders. It will be won or lost at 200 yards and you did it!
