Is it worthwhile owning reamers?

(1/1)

sfulton:
Hi all,

I'm curious, is there really value for a shooter to own the reamer in BR?

(edited to fix a spelling mistake)

DanO:
It is a good option, if your gunsmith has a reamer that fits your sizing die well then not so much.
If using multiple Gunsmiths then getting your own reamer that matches your sizer die will ensure you get the same chamber cut for each barrel. This assumes you will be re-barrelling yearly/regularly, or have multiple guns in that calibre.
If buying a reamer I would recommend looking at .268” or .269” neck dimension if a PPC using Lapua brass.

Thanks Dan, good points, I think I'll pick up my own reamer this year.  I've seen the JGS 1045 recommended and I've been leaning toward a .268 or .269 no-turn neck.

Cheers,
