Hi Brian,
Just thought if anyone who is NOT currently on the contact mailing list for these matches or would be newcomers,
should you post a contact email address for SORSA for them to be able to get further info??
Am hoping we can attract some "new blood" and thinking some newer interested shooters might even be reading these
posts.

Centerfire Discussions / Re: Anyone own a SEB Rest?
« on: May 06, 2010, 06:03:55 PM »
I've been using one of Jamie's first edition Farley rests both in BR and in F Class. Once I had replaced the tensioning screws with the "improved " versions , it removed the dreaded lash .I find it extremely fast, reliable and enjoy it much better than the old speed screw/windage top.
Since owning this ,I did get some time on an (now) old model SEB as I recommended it to a shooter here.It has a small advantage over the Farley IMO. However, I like the coaxil. Why do you think they call it a "joy" stick?
For me I find ,I can be a heck of a lot more consistent  by NOT having to squeeze the bag.
Yep ,they are pricey...but if you have one and no longer want it, it'd take about 2 minutes to find a buyer.

Centerfire Discussions / An alternative to FF 220 Russian to 6PPC
« on: May 06, 2010, 05:44:42 PM »
OK.I've chatted with a couple of local PPC shooters about this we may give it a go to trial it.
R.Whittley had developed what he calls the 6 AR to be used in an AR platform
(http://www.6mmar.com/)
Basically take a 6.5 Grendal case (PPC boltface and Lapua quality brass) and neck to 6MM in 1 pass in the dies and go.
I was thinking that even with a tight neck and a light neck skim ,this sounds VERY interesting and easy.
The resulting case has a wee bit more volume but what the heck,   a simple PPC improved?
Anyone tried this yet? Reamer drawings available and dies available....
Thoughts??

BR Equipment + Components / Re: benchrest primers
« on: May 06, 2010, 05:31:56 PM »
FWIW
couple of seasons back I had some issues blanking primers (FGM) due to a firing pin hole that needed bushing. It was spoiling my day (first 2 relays 5 pierced primers!).6PPC TN 68 g Eubers VV 133
One of the more experienced fellows gave me some WSR primers (harder cup) and told me they would work with VV133 just as well.
Didn't believe him till I used them next relay and -1.No more pieced primers and- 2. absolutely NO Change in accuracy or even point of impact.
I found it hard to believe but for the rest of the summer I ran WSR primers at almost half the cost of FGM's.
I know certain powder/case combinations require CCI or FGM for best performance ...but vv133 and wsr's worked!!!
Give it a try if you're up to some experimenting.

Centerfire Discussions / Re: Robertson Stocks

FWIW
Ian makes some of the BEST looking and functioning stocks in NA (personal opinion).I use his BR model in plain black, but a real thing of beauty.
The lines are perfect, the gelcoat finish superior and priced extremely competitive.
However ,I'll note that Ian has posted a "not accepting any new orders " on his website as of DEC 09 in  order to get caught up on work.
My next BR build will again be in one of his stocks.

Centerfire Discussions / Re: Participation
« on: February 19, 2010, 06:42:57 PM »
Just joined the forum tonight. Thanks Rick for all your work in getting this up and going.
The posting on "Participation" is timely and speaks to the reality of a future in the shooting sports in general.
I started into BR shooting after visiting a match in SW Ontario as a guest of a current BR shooter.I had no idea how addicting the
search for that .000 could be or how much I was to learn from the "gang".
I came from a background of hunting and my trips into Varminting lead to my increased search for precision.I had seen the BR display table at the local gun shows, interesting ,but never hit home til I was "invited" to attend. I had got involved(again by "invite') in Precision Rifle SR Matches and finally after my "visit" to a BR match ,I was hooked.
Same thing happened with the ORA &  DCRA in their Precision Rifle Matches and F Class Matches. I was aware of them but it wasn't until I was "invited" to attend a match by a fellow shooter, that I participated and again got hooked.

The one thing ALL the shooting sports in Canada needs is a continuing growth of new participants to ensure a future of shooting competitions in Canada.

In all the discussions held at meetings I have attended in BR, TR, FClass, PR, the same sense of urgency for new and continued growth is prevalent.
Since I don't know the answers, I simply have made the commitment to introduce ("invite" and drag) at least 1 new shooter out to every event I participate in. Not always successful, I can say that I have been able to account for some new members coming into each and every sport I shoot.
On the larger scale, I've heard some great ideas. I hope they work.
On the smaller individual scale, I suggest that maybe we each take on the role and individually "mentor in" a new shooter and keep trying cause some of them will get bitten just like I did.

Glad to join in with you all.
Gord O.
