I don't know about experts up here. There might be one if Calvin shows up. Our next centerfire score match is Sunday August 25th, 200 meters. Its usually windy for that one. You are located about 5 1/2 hours from Kenora and about 8 hours from Selkirk. You are welcome to come out and give it a try. After the match is over you can try pounding at 500 meters here.

Sounds like two conflicting uses. In 100 and 200 yard Score the .30 BR has gained favor. Downside is recoil unless its a 13.5 lbs gun and scarcity of match bullets in .30 cal. I use a 10.5 pound Light Varmint Group gun and shoot both Score and Group. I can get past a 30 BR if I shoot straight. For shooting 500 or 600 meters an 8 twist 6 BR with 107 grain bullets would be the choice.

I believe you can get them at the Shooting Federation of Canada but not at a good price. We got ours from National Target in the US.

Call me a dabbler, I have a life outside of Benchrest. I have only used Ted's barrels and they have been excellent. Its the convenience of dropping a money order in the mail and the barrel shows up in the mail. No import B.S.

Also, Canadian barrels are not mass produced. The barrel maker spends the time and effort to produce his best barrels and somebody like me puts a tuner on it. Some guys could have the best barrel in the world and not know it because they can't tune and they can't shoot.

Over on the Archery forum they use the "Two Mules For Sister Sarah" technique, carve a notch for a pinch of FFFF black powder, light it on fire and pound it through. When you wake up, the Match is over.

Page 114 of Tony,s "THE BOOK OF RIFLE ACCURACY" gives a good explanation of what is going on. I have 50 tired old cases from my last barrel that I use for practice. When a case starts to click, it gets thrown in the garbage. I hate the disruption of the gun in the bags when you try to lift the bolt.

Boy I can't wait to shoot Rosebud. Lets see, a solid 18 hour drive to get there, the range is almost 5000 feet above sea level on the side of a mountain where its been known to snow any month of the year. We better bring some warm clothes just in case. The guys down east talk pretty tough when it comes to rain, but they have been known to call out the Army when it snows.

Its a combination, case prep as per Tony's book then I fill the case up to the neck with Bullseye pistol powder, plug it with a wax card and fire form. Next fireforming is with a bullet then I use them in competition.

Congratulations on your 2 Gun win, it was much deserved. You are definitely improving and have figured things out. Whats my excuse? I got my moneys worth out of Ted's barrel. A good barrel can only carry me so long, but "I'll be back". That had to be the worst mirage I ever shot in. The Selkirk range on a 30 degree day with hardly any wind, now that is mirage.

Good shooting Cal. Glad you won, you deserve it.

It was a tough field of competitors and many of them deserve to have won but they were not having a good day.
