BR Equipment + Components / WTB: Looking to buy a front rifle rest.
« on: September 12, 2013, 09:39:35 PM »
As it says looking to buy front rifle rest.
If anyone has any interest I'm willing to throw my Henry Rempel skipod in the mix, for trade bait!

Well, I haven't purchased a 6PPC yet! :( I came close to purchasing one in the US, but decided to hold off for the time being due to the lack of local matches.

Hopefully, Regina will be back up and rolling in the near future!

When I first started researching the BR shooting I looked at F-Class as well, and that is where I've been leaning more too right now! For starters my rifles are a lot more  F-Class type (you could say) and there are several matches held annually at Nokomis,SK.

On another note, I did get a couple Weaver T-36s purchsed! They make target shooting and load development alot of fun!!!

Hopefully, I'll get to a BR shoot and check it out and meet some of you in the future!

This may seem like a silly question butttt...

Is there any large advantage to a dot reticle over just the plain old fine cross hair??? Or is it just preference?

First of all whats the difference between the Stolle Teddy and the Panda?
Secondly, besides sizing the 220 Russian brass which other brass can be made to work in the custom chambers...Norma or Sako? I thought I read one of these would work but one wouldnt.
Sorry if questions are dumb but just trying to learn more! ;D

Greg,

I have many friends/clients I've guided over the years...they have valid PALS(for owning and possessing rifles here in Canada) which makes buying a rifle from them real simple. Otherwise you're probably right, it could be tough!

I've done some more research and contacted a few more knowledgeable and helpful people and have decided to start the process of looking for a used 6ppc.
So, I've come accross a site I'm sure all of you have seen ...

www.benchrest.com/shooterscorner

There is approximately a 100 used BR rifles for sale there but my brain scrammbles looking at all these ads! :-\

Some of you guys wanna take the time to check them out and perhaps give me your opinion on some of the best buys there that would be helpful!

Yeah, here is a concern...even the rifle I have now would probably be sufficient for a few starter matches. I'd perhaps rather get my feet wet with it and later build the proper rig. I'd hate to tear this 6MM AI apart to replace it as a 6BR for not a large gain! As I said (and I haven't totally got this new tube dialed in...) but this rifle currently shoots low .2s (3 shot mind you) and I did shoot a 3 3/4" 5 shot group @ 500 with it a week or so ago. Not near your guys calibre but its a good start I believe. Where I believe I can improve is I only have a 4.5-14 Fullfield II for glass, I shoot with a Shooters Ridge pivot bipod (not ideal) and shoot off a flimsy plywood table with folding legs. Perhaps better glass and a decent front rest would be a better start.

Thanks for all the great help guys...keep it coming! I'm excited to get started! ;D

It has a bedded B&C Remington Light Tactical stock and Rifle Basix trigger set at 1#(the barrel and action you know) Just for guys asking!

Thanks again
Brian

Thanks again Calvin...
I'll explain my situation and you guys can help me make my decisions.

First of all I've got a newly built 6MM AI...136 rounds thru it, with a 1 in 12 twist, 26 7/8"(Gaillard) #5contour(as it is its about 12.4#)...currently shooting 69gr bergers.(the old gaillard barrel on it I had shot on occasion high .1s on a 3 shot group. This one so far just .207 on a 3 shot group...haven't found the pet load yet) Now I talked to my smith about rechambering it to 6BR he wasn't exactly sure about stabilizing 66-69gr bullets with a 1in12(with regards to 6BR)(I just assumed if it stablized them as a 6MM AI it should also with the other 243dia calibre...but thats why hes the smith and I run a grader). He certainly thought Ted would be a good guy to contact(which I will but likely some of you can help here as well)
Obviously if I go this route it gets me going with a lot less $$$.
Another question however...how does this 6BR(with a 22" barrel lets say) do against my existing 6MM AI at greater distances ie 500,600 yds???

Thought I should ask...is there a velocity restrictions at any BR ranges???

What would be the majority average, as far as barrel length and contour, on all these 6PPCs being used?

Does the 6BR typically make a close 2nd place? As far as being competitive with the 6ppc?

Joe...all three of my rifles are blueprinted 700s.

Well Calvin...I'll take you up on the opportunity to ask what may seem like some silly questions.

The question I gotta ask is what makes the 6PPC so great??? It's evident its the big dog in benchrest!

Also I'm going to order a scope...just something to get started...which do you guys recommend...

Weaver T36 or Sightron II 36X42 BR D
