Hi Easydreamer.  I have the two F-Open guns for sale in this exchange.  Both have top end custom actions and components.

If you were so inclined, you could rebarrel one of them with a .308 barrel and have a ready to go F-TR rilfe.

Centerfire Discussions / Re: sorting brass by case weight?
« on: December 17, 2012, 09:05:59 PM »
Yes, cases were weighed as the final step after trimming, reaming pockets and flash holes, turning necks, cleaning etc.

I wish Lapua made WSM brass but sadly they do not.

Ok reloading experts, here's a few questions for you.

How important is sorting brass by weight?

What is a reasonable tolerance in a batch?

I have fully prepped almost 550 pieces of Winchester 300WSM brass.  I know Winchester brass is not the greatest but it's the only reasonably priced show in town for WSM brass.  Norma brass is just way too expensive for me in such a large quantity.

The brass is for my F class rifle, where I need to extract sub .5MOA or better accuracy, certainly not BR accuracy so the Win brass is good enough.

I weighed every piece and sorted into two lots, 225.0 - 226.9 gr ( about 150 pieces) and 227.0 - 229.5 gr (about 400 pieces).  I culled out the few that came in under 225 and over 229.5 Yes I know the lots have different weight spreads.  I could not bring myself to throw out the the couple of dozen cases that weighed between 229.1 and 229.5and they are not useful to me as such a small lot so I tossed them in the next closest batch

Do I need to sort further?  Can I combine the two lots into one?
Is the weight difference going to make any measurable difference?

Thanks for the info Rick.

I think my expectations of the measure were too high.  Not a total loss though.

My Pact allows me to load about 60 rds an hour.  There's lots of standing around waiting for the dispenser to run a cycle.  Using the Harrell's with the electronic scale and a pinch bowl of powder to add or subtract grains I was just able to load 110 rds in about an hour with the same level of precision as the electronic dispenser was giving me previously. That's nearly double the speed.  I am mucho happy about that.

I will try the measure with my other commonly used powders, Varget and H4350 and see what kind of results I get.

Hello benchrest shooters.

After attending Rick's BR 101 clinic this spring and speaking with some of the coaches about the consistency of Harrell's measures, I decided to invest in a one to speed up my reloading and make charge dispensing more consistent.  I have been using a Pact electronic dispenser which although quite accurate is quite slow and requires a 110v power source.

My new Harrell's powder measure arrived today and I've been trying to use it but it's giving me grief.  Just wondering if my results are typical or if I'm doing something wrong.

I am using Reloder 25 and trying to throw 64.0 grains.  I am weighing each charge and finding that the measure is throwing anywhere from 63.5 to 64.7 grains of powder with most falling within +/- 0.4 gr.

I cannot believe I'm getting up to 1.2 grains in variation between charges.  As per Harrell's instructions, I am trying to be very consistent with the speed I raise and lower the arm but it does not seem to help.  The amount of variance I'm getting is nowhere near acceptable to me.

Is this normal?

If not, any suggestions for things I should try?

Thanks for reading.

Centerfire Discussions / Looking for reloading coach in Calgary area
« on: June 20, 2012, 04:54:08 PM »
Hello,

I wondering if any of you experienced reloaders in the Calgary area would be willing to show a new guy the secrets of brass prep and precision reloading?

I want to learn how to make my brass and ammo more consistent. I've done lots of reading about the procedures and tried them on my own with varying amounts of success but having someone show me hands on would really help.

I have a Neco concentricity / run out gauge and K&M neck turning tools but no real idea how to use them properly.

If you are willing to teach a student, please fire me am email at les.dolhun@gmail.com.

thanks.

Just like the banner says, I'm looking for a powder measure clamp style stand which will work with a Harrells powder measure.

If you have one you're interested in selling, please send me a PM or email to les.dolhun@gmail.com  with specs and your asking price.

Thanks for looking.
