Calling all BR Shooters!

Rosebud Silhouette & Benchrest Club is pleased to announce it is going ahead with the Stampede Shootout scheduled for July 10th and 11th,  with a practice day on the Friday July 9th. Alberta is in stage 2 of our Covid re-opening plan with all restrictions expected to be lifted around June 30th.

This will be a BRSC sanctioned group shoot. Memberships can be purchased at the range if you need one. The Stampede Shootout will be 4-Gun contest. That is: we will shoot all 4 BR classes in this event, all aggregates will be at 100 yards over the two days. Saturday will be Sporter and LV, and Sunday will be HV and Unl. (5-shot). The Champion will be the lowest in the combined 4-Gun Grand Aggregate, with individual class aggregates awarded as well. Match Fee is $80 for the weekend.

Camping is allowed and those looking to camp at the range should contact me in advance to make arrangements. This is dry camping with no amenities. Anyone looking for hotel recommendations please contact me.

Loading is in the clubhouse where we have space for about 30 shooters and their reloading equipment.

There will be a BBQ on the Saturday after the shooting is completed. The club will supply the side dishes and soft drinks. The shooters should bring their own steaks, burgers etc to grill.

Friday practice day is available for everyone. Out of towners and non-members let me know in advance if you plan to participate in this so we can arrange access on the Friday.

If anybody need directions try this link: https://goo.gl/maps/j3MZ9Z2zfEA2 or https://www.albertarifle.com/directions

It is very helpful for us to know in advance who all is coming to this shoot, to arrange helpers and support to make the match run smoothly To that end please let me know if you are attending, unless we have communicated already.

Last thought, I will have an area set up for a swap meet, so feel free to bring items you wish to display for sale.

Any questions please send them through to rickpollock@shaw.ca

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Rick Pollock

Please take note that the BRSC National Championships will be held at the Rosebud Silhouette & Benchrest Club Aug 1st and 2nd. Camping is available, just let me know in advance.

I would also appreciate hearing from any out of towners in advance, just to let you know the procedure for accessing the Club. The Club will provide a dinner including a main course and side dishes as well as soft drinks and snacks on the Saturday after the matches are completed.

Of special note we will have a tribute to our good Friend Dan Opel, immediately following the morning matches, at approximately 11:30 AM.

Lastly we will have the BRSC AGM on the Friday, July 31st, in the Clubhouse at 3PM.

This looks like it will be a terrific turnout, as we are expecting shooters from across Western Canada and even further points East. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

BRSC - Benchrest Shooters Canada / Dan Opel
« on: June 04, 2020, 09:33:56 AM »
It is with profound sadness I am letting everyone know that Dan Opel passed away yesterday. Dan was a friend to shooters far and wide. He was a mentor to many and one of the guys you could always count on to be at a match and support anyone who needed help in this game. Dan was the President of the BRSC and a strong supporter of the Canadian World Team. So many fond memories it is difficult to know where to start. We are sure to miss him. Please keep his wonderful wife Sue in your thoughts and prayers.

Fellow Shooters,

Here is the process for qualifying for the 2021 World Benchrest Team. There are a few things that each shooter needs to take care of to be eligible for the team:

1. Each shooter needs to declare their intention to enter the qualifying process by the end of February 2020. An email to rickpollock@shaw.ca registering their intention to qualify will be sufficient.
2. Each shooter needs to be a member of both BRSC and OFAH during the qualifying year and the competition year. This is per the World Team meeting in Calgary during the 2019 World Championship. Contact Carolyn Pollock at cpollock256@shaw.ca to become a BRSC member. To become a member of OFAH visit: https://www.ofah.org to register. Proof of membership in both organizations will be required.
3. During the competition season in 2020, shooters will need to email rickpollock@shaw.ca with evidence of their placings at various events to be added to the qualifying tally and roster of shooters. All sanctioned group shoots are eligible for points accumulation.
4. At the end of 2020 each shooter will be asked to confirm by email if they plan to attend the World Championships in Calgary and submit a $500 CDN deposit to the World Team to be used against the entry fee for the World Championship which is expected to be $400 USD.

Note: the qualifying ranking will be in accordance to the previous years format with your rank based upon how many points you have accumulated in the qualifying year. Points are awarded based upon how many shooters you placed above in your (6) best Grand Aggregates (LV, HV, SP) during 2020. There will be a cap of available points in each Grand Aggregate based upon the total # of shooters entered in the 2020 Cactus Classic.

Team selection will be based on this final ranking of accumulated points, and receipt of entry fee deposit, with the final selection taking place no later than December 31st, 2020.

Centerfire Discussions / Sheldon Charron - Filmaker BR Documentary
« on: September 23, 2019, 12:03:43 PM »
Shooters,

We all know BR is perhaps one of the greatest shooting sports, and that everyone thinks they know about, but few understand the game outside of the current competitors. Sheldon has been active in the shooting sports for years and is also active in the filmaking world. Sheldon wants to get the word out about our game, having recently participated in a few shoots, he sees that there is a great story to be told, but it is not getting out to the world.

He has asked for our support in this project, in whatever amount you can spare to get this project off the ground. Check out the go fund me link:

https://www.gofundme.com/f/benchrest-documentary

I will be contributing, and I encourage everyone to contribute in a corporate, club or sanctioning body capacity. The future of the sport could use some assistance and this is but one way to get the word out.

Thanks for considering this.

Rick
