Centerfire Discussions / Re: 6PPC - .262 or .269 (or to turn, or not)

I think that back when the brass wasn't good it paid on the targets to have the thinnest necks but now since there are so many willing to pay for good .220 cases I doubt it will go back to the way it was.

Of all the Lapua I've tried there is always lots of brass to turn off for my .269 necks. May not be the same with Norma brass... but why use Norma brass?

Yeah I'm a few months late but since it's a bit slow here...

Here is a print of a .269 ppc reamer that is reverse engineered so a Redding S full length die and a .2655 bushing work perfectly.  It also fits a wilson hand seater. Turn neck walls to about .0120
I use it with Barts Ultras

Can anyone guess who the shooter was I got the print from?

I still have the Sightron because of the mod.

Is it done with 1 or 2 opposing nylon screws that you back off before making adjustments?  I'm curious where they are on the tube. Any pictures?

Thanks

Mike

(I just bought an SII 36x 1/8" dot from Mystic, too soon to pass judgment)

Lawrence,

What symptoms was that glued in rifle giving you?

It might help me in something I'm working on.

Thanks

Flex in the 2 pipes (2" pipe?) is what I'd be concerned about.  I don't see why left to right doesn't mean anything.

I would be interested to see a dial indicator set on a separate post stuck in the ground with it's pad up against one of those vertical pipes that holds the whole mess up (target frames and all)

I'd venture a guess you'd see some change from left to right.

PPC would probably be the most accurate but you could keep the bolt as is and do a 14 twist 6x45 (223x6mm)

I tightened up that joint today and I'll stick it back together for the club match on sat but I'm going to get an adjustable mount figured out, maybe buy one of Gene Buky's then freeze it.

To freeze it just silver solder up that goofy joint then make a crescent ring to center the lens carrier in the erector tube (if those are the right words) then epoxy that together.

I do have a bottle of nitrogen but would it even be worth purging it?  Looking at all these O-rings that seat on threads... I have a hard time believing it's air tight.

I would think it would take a while to get one of Gene's mounts out of the states?

I took my weaver apart tonight (all but the objective) very simple workings but a bit of a bear to slide out the erector assembly.  Lots good news for me though. This thing would be very easy to freeze, there is no wear on the bottoms of the turrets and the little "balls" that are set into the erector tube that would wear the turret bottoms are also perfect. Same goes for where the leaf springs push, nice and smooth.

Also I think I found my problem, the socket (for lack of a better term) that's at the back of the erector tube that lets the lens assembly pivot around in there seems to be a bit loose. I think I can make a tool to peen it over to tighten it up. The leaf springs that push the assembly against the turret bottoms and the coil spring that's inside the erector assembly are much stronger than I expected. That coil spring and it's clip looks like it's going to be fun to get back in.

Funny this topic should come up today.  I just convinced myself 100% yesterday that my old boosted steel weaver has given up it's horizontal tracking and today at work I was thinking about tearing it apart and trying my hand at freezing it.

-I shot my best group ever at 200y during load testing and when I moved it down to 100y for this coming weekends match it did the old ....didn't move, didn't move then jump thing.  Vertical seems good but the horizontal....

I was looking online last night figuring where I was going to order a 36 weaver from but since I don't have much to loose in taking this one apart I figure I should give it a try.  If I can repair a diesel injection pump I can probably make the tools to do this thing.

I'd really like to have a scope I can trust.

Simple question: If you were a bag squeezer and you could use lead shot in your rear bag (legally) would you?  If yes would you use it just in the base, the ears or both?

The bench shoot will be broken down into 3 classes: heavy barrel, light barrel and rimfire (50y).

Bench will be shot at standard 100y bench score targets.

If you come the day before we'll make it so you can do some shooting that day. If you stay till Sunday we shoot trap at noon.

Any more details on the shoot next Sunday?

I'm thinking about trying to find my way down there from Powell River.  Anyone from CR or Sechelt going to make it down this time?
