Selkirk Bench Rest Shooters Provincials Aug 18-19
« on: August 03, 2012, 07:54:39 PM »
We are 2 weeks tommorrow from the second and final match for this year.

No changes to the format.

Sat Aug. 18
LV 100 AM
HV 100 PM

Sun Aug. 19
HV 200 AM
LV 200 PM

Cost is 60.00 for the weekend plus a BRSC membership if you do not have one.

Practice day Friday if you so desire.  I will be there early Friday AM.  If you are attending I would really like to know in advance.  E-mail me at cyanchyc@mymts.net.

I have done up a letter so you do not get the gears about practicing at the range.  I will take the heat from everyone who does not like it.  If you would like a copy just e-mail me and I will get it to you.

Word is there are a few Alberta Gunners making the trip.

I will contact Lyle and see if he is around for the shoot to set up pizza or something.  If not I will get it lined up.  How about supper Sat evening?  Any suggestions?????  Larters?  Beer cart???????  ;_P

See you there.

Calvin

Haven't been to the range before however, barbequed burgers or something similar works for me. I can help with the cooking if you need a hand.
cheers,
Bob

I think Larters would be the place for dinner on Saturday, ALWAYS good and no fuss for anyone. That way we can all enjoy the company and have a great meal as well.
   My thoughts only, Murray

Need a bigger truck! Would be great if we can figure out how to get all 3 of us + gear into one vehicle. Won't fit in my Toyota SUV that is for sure.

We are leaving Thursday, drive right to Selkirk. Practice Friday, kick ass (I wish!) Sat and Sun, drive part way back Sunday, back in Calgary about 2 in the afternoon on Monday.

Any thoughts?

Question - what is the difference between a morning and afternoon load?

Is there a common technique for dialing in loads?

Bob you will have lots of time to shoot Friday.  We can talk about all that stuff Thursday evening when you get in.  I will be in Selkirk Thursday evening as well.

The Basic theories:

We load by volume.  Supposedly the powder burns by weight.  So in theory, when it is cooler out the size of the kernel gets smaller.  Basically the expansion and contraction factor.

Again in theory, your load in the AM will be slightly less than in the PM.  Then there are all the other factors that come into play. The temperatures and humidities effect on the burning of the powder.  What I find the best way to see if your load is going south is shooting at 200.  Unfortunately you do not get that option when a match is happening at 100.

You can even throw in to make it more confusing is why would I add more powder when it is getting warmer out????  Ideally it would be nice to shoot a match over a chronograph to see what happens through out the day as you try different things.  Maybe one day I will have the chance to spend a nice summer day at Selkirk and try that.

You need to be able to trust yourself that you are doing everything right at the bench.  No bad bench etiquette, and that you made the right decision on when you pulled the trigger.  Then and only then can you let your targets tell the story.

Will have lots of time to talk through the weekend.  Don't get to caught up in the load changes.  I find that in our neck of the woods things do not change a whole lot.  Temp is pretty consistent from Rosebud to Selkirk.

The only diference is you are not in the nose bleed section when you shoot in Selkirk.........

Just a quick update.

Congrats to Rick Pollock for winning the 2 gun.  Dwayne Cyr was second, Grant Schick 3rd, Peter Penner 4th and Phil Nick 5th.

Murray Benson set a new range record with a small group of .048 in the LV 100.  Awesome shooting and what a PRETTY little round group.  This betters the previous record held by Harold Wasnie with a .073.  Hopefully one of the guys will be able to get a picture up with Murray and his target.

Murray also has a POTENTIAL BRSC LV 100 yard Agg record.  The current record is .1972 Held by Maxine Seib shot in 1998.  Murray's LV agg was .1738.  Good Luck Murray............

On a side note, Murray shot the record group target and potential record agg with a new barrel that had only seen 15 rounds down it prior to the match.

If I have a chance I will get the results sent to Rick so he can post.

I have been away from home since Wed AM and need to get unloaded, laundry done, and packed up again for 2 weeks away starting tommorrow AM.  Hope you will be patient.

Maybe what I have been saying has some merit to it. Congrats Murray!!!

I think Rick had a slight advantage over us at 200 yards today in the tricky conditions..........

Tricky enough that I said THE HECK with it after target 1 this afternoon.  Yep I pulled the pin and do not regret it.  I will not go to bed scratching my head wondering why all those shots did not go where they were supposed to.
