Our annual Spring Tuneup Match is coming up, and we'd like to get an idea of attendance.

This will be a "standard" group shoot format, LV/HV at 100 and 200 yards.

You must be a BRSC member to participate, and guns must follow the BRSC/NBRSA rules for Light and Heavy Varmint.  BRSC memberships will be available at the shoot.

We have half the range reserved for practice on Friday, April 12.

Please contact Mark DuMont (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe Mendham (joemendham@telus.net) to reserve your space or with any questions.

Hope to see you all there!

Club Events / Mission - January 2024 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: January 08, 2024, 10:22:07 AM »
Our January match attracted 11 shooters, our best turnout in quite a while - Thanks to all who participated.

Weather was better than forecast, with mild conditions and a bit of sun.

Once again, Denis showed the way, winning the Agg for the third time in a row, the proverbial threepeat.  Nice shooting Denis!  Denis also took the 100 yard in a tie breaker with Art and Allan took 200 as well as second in the Agg.

Pete and Vlad organized the targets while Art wrangled them to and from the frames.  Art also took care of the scoring.  Allan took our money while Joe called the line.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Next match is February 4, 2024 where we'll shoot Score again.  Hope to see you all there.

Club Events / Mission - December 2023 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: December 04, 2023, 11:15:13 AM »
Our December match attracted a great crowd of 9 shooters, including Don Ells who joined us as a guest from Vancouver Island.  (A quick reminder that guests are always welcome at our monthly shoots!)

Weather was variable, starting calm, turning switchy as a front came in followed by steady rain and mist for the 200 yard targets.

Denis Lapierre showed the way, winning both yardages and hence the Grand Agg as well.  Don also made a good showing taking second in the Grand Agg as well as at 200 yards.

Art and Pete wrangled the targets in the rain.  Art took our money and did the scoring as well while Joe called the line.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Next match is January 7, 2024 where we'll shoot Score again.  Hope to see you all there.

Club Events / Mission - November 2023 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: November 05, 2023, 06:24:07 PM »
With the cooler weather we had a smaller than usual crowd of 5 shooters to compete in fair weather despite a pessimistic forecast.  Conditions were quite mild, although some challenges emerged (as usual) at 200 yards.

After a long absence, Denis Lapierre returned to show us all how it is done, winning both yardages and (of course) the Agg.  I guess only the experts show up in the winter, a mere 6 points separated the field at 200 yards.

With Pete away, Art and Vlad stepped in to run the targets.  Joe took our money and called the match while Art did the scoring.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Next match is December 3, where we'll shoot Score again.  Hope to see you all there.

An even dozen shooters showed up to compete in the last match of the season.  Conditions were very mild, although the temperature was on the minus side!

We welcomed Dave back after a long absence, and he turned a credible performance despite the layoff!

Ken prevailed in Benchrest, followed closely by Mel, Cynthia and Paul.  Tim took Sporter and also got all 4 Best Targets in that division.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Thanks also to Derreck, Shawn and Mel who did the scoring and to Tim who organized the targets.

Hope to see you all again next year!

While was away in France competing in centerfire benchrest, Paul and the crew staged the usual September match.

I see that the Sporter shooters outnumbered the Benchrest shooters by a significant margin...

Club Events / Mission - October 2023 Benchrest Group & Score at 300
« on: October 08, 2023, 09:07:14 PM »
For a change of pace, we decided to shoot our combined Group and Score 300 yard match.  In this format, we hang both a Group and a 200 yard Score target at 300 yards.  You have 14 minutes to complete both targets, and we repeat the process 5 times for the complete match.

A thin turnout of 5 shooters got beautiful fall weather and very mild conditions.

With Pete away, Art handled the targets while Joe took our money and called the match.

Our next match is November 5th, and we'll be back to shooting Score at 100 and 200 yards.

Because it is hard to compare Group and Score results, we adopt a scoring system where a shooter gets 1 point for each person with a lower score / group size in a particular match.  These scores are tallied and the one with the most points wins.

Here are the results:

Club Events / Mission - September 2023 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: September 10, 2023, 06:19:07 PM »
Conditions started relatively mild, but got more challenging as the day wore on with intense mirage and switchy winds.

With Art at Rosebud for the Alberta Provincials and Vlad on the sick list, a small crew of 5 shooters competed for the fame and glory.

Thanks to Pete and Bob who ran the targets, and to Joe who called the match.

Our next match is October 15, where we'll be shooting Score.

Nine shooters showed up to compete in warm and mild conditions, although there were reports of increased activity on the second relay.  A number of people took the opportunity to shoot on both relays.

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest, taking all 4 best target spots while Tim took Sporter.   Once again we had more shooters in Sporter than in Benchrest.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Thanks also to Mel and Dereck who did the scoring and to Tim who organized the targets.

Next match is on September 23.

« on: August 07, 2023, 12:17:01 PM »
Conditions started relatively mild, but got much more challenging as the day wore on with intense mirage and switchy winds.  The high aggs certainly reflected this.

We welcomed Trevor Ardron, who turned in credible rookie performance, including the best target at 200.

Congrats to Pete on consistent shooting at 200 for the win in difficult conditions.

Pete and Vlad organized the targets, Art took our money and did the safety briefing and Joe called the match.

Our next match is September 10, where we'll be shooting Score.

Once again, Yodave's army came in from the Island ready to play, taking 3 of the top 5 spots in Benchrest and 2 of the top 5 in Sporter.  Paul took the overall win in Benchrest while Derreck took Sporter.

Ray who shot on the home team for many years appeared with a Yo Dave t-shirt - Glad to have him back, if only briefly!

This is our big event for the year, and after the awards were handed out we drew for the contents of a well stocked prize table.

Thanks to all our sponsors:  Italian Sporting Goods, Reliable Gun, Yodave Products, Hirsch Precision and Ray Parkin.  Do your best to return the favor and support them!

...and here are the results.  As suggested, I've separated the Best Target listings for Benchrest and Sporter.  Thanks to all who took the time to fill out the Equipment List forms.

Watch this space for further updates - Pics to come.

Eleven shooters showed up to compete in mild but damp weather.  Conditions were mild, although some sneaky patches did develop.

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest, and Tim took Sporter in the "battle of brothers".  We also had more shooters in Sporter than in Benchrest, a somewhat unusual event.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  Thanks also to Mel and Dereck who did the scoring and to Tim who organized the targets.

Next match is the Bob Goehring Provincial Championship on July 22.  Rumor has it our friends from Vancouver Island will put in an appearance.

Club Events / Jim Latham Memorial Score Match - Sunday, July 2, 2023
« on: June 18, 2023, 03:20:37 PM »
Mission and District Rod and Gun will host our annual Jim Latham Memorial VFS match on Sunday, July 2.

The course of fire will be 20 Score rounds at each of 100, 200 and 300 yards.  Bring 80 rounds or so if you preload.  Awards to third place at each yardage and the Jim Latham Perpetual Trophy to the winner of the Grand Agg.  Your chance for fame and glory!  We will shoot the 300 yard match first to allow for shot spotting in summer conditions.

This match has very few equipment rules - No muzzle brakes and no rail guns.  F-Open rifles are more than welcome!  Jim was always a fan of
cross pollination in the shooting sports...

Safety meeting at 8:45, Match begins at 9:00 am sharp and we should be done by 4:00 pm or so.

$40 entry fee - Clubhouse is open if you want to purchase lunch.

Pre registration is required, so please email me (markdumont750@gmail.com) or Joe (joemendham@hotmail.com) if you plan to attend and with any questions.

Club Events / Mission - June 2023 Benchrest Score Shoot
« on: June 04, 2023, 05:25:17 PM »
A smaller than usual crowd of 6 shooters showed up to compete in challenging spring conditions.  The wind was variable over time and over the yardage, with periods of mirage to add to the challenge.

With Pete away, Brendan stepped in to run the targets along with Vlad and Art.  Joe called the line, Art collected our money and did the scoring.  Thanks to all who pitched in.

Art completed a clean sweep, winning at both yardages.

Next match is the Jim Latham Memorial on July 2, an all-day match where we'll shoot Score at 100, 200 and 300 yards.  Hope to see you all there.

Nine shooters showed up to compete in lovely spring weather, with Cottonwood fluff providing a backdrop.  Conditions were relatively mild, with some slightly interesting patches.   We all shot in the same relay, so there was no "relay advantage."

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest, but Tim took Sporter for a change.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match.  With our usual scoring crew of Mel and Derreck absent, Paul and Brian stepped in to handle the scoring, while Tim organized the targets.

Next match is June 24.

Your humble scribe was attending the festivities on the centerfire range on this date, so here is Paul's report:

The weather was fine for our second shoot of the year, in fact by the afternoon it was positively warm. Some of our regular unlimited shooters were absent due to a big centrefire match going on that weekend but we still had 9 competitors.  We were happy to welcome a new shooter, Suzanne, who is a regular shooter in Mel's 100 and 200 yard shoots.  Paul won in the unlimited category and Derreck squeezed by brother Tim in the sporter.  Mel, who is a regular unlimited shooter, chose to lighten his load and shoot true sporter.  Good to see Mike back with us.

Club Events / Mission - April 2023 Benchrest Group Shoot
« on: April 03, 2023, 03:30:38 PM »
In March, we shot Group as a runup to our BRSC Registered Spring Tuneup Shoot.

Winter continues to hold on despite the calendar.  The day started at about 1 degree, with rain, sleet and hail.  At the same time, conditions started calm but picked up as the day progressed.

We welcomed Ken Holmberg, who turned in credible rookie performance, including a match win at 200 yards.

Pete and Ken organized the targets, Art took our money and did the safety briefing and Joe called the match.  Despite a bad back, Allan showed up to measure the groups.  Meanwhile, Brendan stoked the stove - Much appreciated!

Our next match is our BRSC Registered Spring Tuneup shoot to be held on April 29 & 30.  There are still a few places available if you wish to register!

Five hardy shooters showed up to compete in temperatures around freezing with sleet and snow on the range.  Despite that, the winds were very calm.

As usual, Paul prevailed in Benchrest while Derreck took Sporter.

Thanks to Paul for organizing the match and to Derreck for his usual accurate and efficient job of scoring.

Next match is April 29, and we all hope the weather is a little warmer!

« on: March 06, 2023, 09:01:02 PM »
In March, we shot Group as a runup to our BRSC Registered Spring Tuneup Shoot.  We shot Score for most of the winter, and it became clear our group skills need work!

The day started at about 1 degree and dead calm for the first 4 matches.  As the sun came up, an unusual uprange wind started up and made for some interesting conditions.

Pete organized the targets, Art took our money and did the safety briefing and Joe called the match.  Meanwhile, Brendan stoked the stove - Much appreciated!

Congrats to Pete for his win at 100, along with some very impressive groups!

Our next match is on April 2 where we'll shoot Group again as a runup to our Spring Tuneup shoot to be held on April 29 & 30.  There are still a few places available if you wish to register!
