Title: BRSC fundraiser ideas
Post by: cyanchycki on January 10, 2010, 12:13:40 PM
Okay I am not sure if I should be doing this here but I think we need to kick some tires.

Okay a lot of you are aware of the 2010 National Match decal I have designed for the Canadian Nationals at Rosebud.  I hope to see this decal carry forward from year to year as my contribution.  They will be done differently each year.  I am going to fund that decal myself this year as my donation to the Match.  Cost to me is minimal.  Those in the Executive that I have discussed this were in favor of the idea.  We need to start to move forward to try and get this sport known in Canada.

I am also in the process of finalizing a design for which I hope to be an Official BRSC Sceamer decal or patch.  When I have that design completed it will be shared with the BRSC Executive and the few who I contacted for there input of ideas.  So far I have heard good things about this idea.

Getting to business I feel we need to look at some ideas for fundraising to help assist with some of the expenses going to be incurred this year with the BRSC.  In doing so we will also spread awareness to our sport by the sale of tickets.  I feel we can successfully carry out this endeaveor with the assistance of our other Canadian forum.  The ticket sales I feel can be done via internet and e-mail.  I would be willing to look after setting up the raffle license if required and sending out receipts/tkt stub via e-mail.

The thoughts now turn to what to raffle off.  I have been thinking of a SEB rest.  Something that all shooters would like to have regardless of there shooting discipline.  Thoughts or ideas.

I am not saying we have to make a fortune but if we can make enough to assist with some of the expenses would be great.

Calvin,

Great idea! What about a certificate for a barrel or a stock or a scope? Maybe a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place prize? Probably bring in a lot of non-BR people who don't have a use for a SEB rest (even though it is a great rest).

Good ideas Rick.

I am thinking we should limit the amount of tickets printed to no more than 200.

How many prizes would we want to go with?  I think no more than 3.

Maybe 1st Seb rest, 2nd Barrel Cetificate, 3rd Chambering job......

Maybe with 1 prize the rest we do 100 tkts @ X dollars each.

Draw could be made after ALL tickets are sold, preferably at the Nationals.  If not sold till after, I would talk to the owner of the gunshop in Brandon and do it there with the employees present.

I think the smaller the amount of tickets the quicker they will sell.

My understanding of a non profit group (BRSC) holding any sort of raffle in Alberta the group needs a gaming license. This is why most of the prizes are given away by draw rather than auctioned or raffled with proceeds to the group. A gameing license for an adult, sporting nonprofit group is very difficult to obtain in this province. This may be different from one province to another. This is if you want to do it legally. My wife went thru all of this for funraising for her Karate club. She says never again as the Gov't can be a pain.

Rob there will be an incoming e-mail from myself to the executive in regards to a lottery license in MB.  I talked with MB Gaming Commission and a local RM and it is no big deal.  We follow under there maximum dollar values.  It would be all above board based in Manitoba per the MB Gamint Commission.

Maybe there is another good thing about MB, the Gaming Commission.

When you talk to the gaming commission in Mb. Calvin make sure that a registered in Alberta society can get a Mb. license. If so it sounds like it would be a lot easier.

Good thinking Tony

I forgot the BRSC is set up in AB. An out of province non profit group wanting a gameing license may be more trouble. I hope not.

Okay that changes everything if it is registered in Alberta.  I never thought of where it was registered as a non profit organization.

Okay so it looks like we have a few ducks falling into place.

License appears to be of no problem.
The other Cdn Forum will support advertising of tickets.
I am prepared to look after the tickets/sales and getting receipts/stubs out to the buyers.

Just to confirm if we will go forward with this venture with the executive and possibly confirming prize/ticket structure.
